COVID EHR Cohort at the University of Wisconsin

COVID project logo

In April, 2020, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) invited the University of Wisconsin (UW) to lead the COVID EHR Cohort at the University of Wisconsin (CEC-UW).

UW then invited cancer centers participating in the Cancer Center Cessation Initiative (C3I), as well as other health systems heavily impacted by COVID-19, to participate in the CEC-UW project to better understand links between characteristics of COVID-19 patients and their outcomes. Each of the 21 participating healthcare systems provided electronic health record (EHR) data on all COVID-19 patients, beginning on Feb. 1, 2020.

The goal of CEC-UW was to evaluate how demographic, medical history (including smoking and cancer history), and clinical course are related to COVID-19 severity and outcomes. To view a summary of data results, click here.

CEC-UW built on UW’s expertise and national leadership in tobacco control, cancer prevention, and EHR integration.
