UW-CTRI Student Anna Gardner presented a poster she created with UW-CTRI Director of Clinical Services Dr. Doug Jorenby, “The Impacts of Smoking Cessation Therapies (Varenicline and Nicotine Patch) on Sleep Patterns in Users.” Gardner presented the poster at her Biology 152 event, and Jorenby took the picture. Here’s what they found: Smokers reported no reliable differences in sleep patterns when they used nicotine patches. However, those using varenicline plus nicotine patch reported being significantly more troubled by dreams than those using varenicline alone. This effect was highly specific, as the groups did not differ on their overall sleep satisfaction ratings.
