Million Hearts: UW-CTRI Helps Create Tobacco Treatment Protocols

UW-CTRI staff recently partnered with staff from across the CDC to develop a practical template for an evidence-based tobacco cessation intervention protocol. The protocol, developed for the Million Hearts Program, is available for clinicians to use to fit the needs of their practice. Rob Adsit, UW-CTRI Outreach director, worked on developing the tools as part of his work with the CDC’s Office on Smoking and Health, as well as UW-CTRI Director Dr. Michael Fiore.

The protocol can be used as an identification and intervention tool for clinics, and also helps as a model to build clinical decision support into the electronic health record, helping to achieve tobacco use intervention goals.

The protocol is the first tobacco cessation resource on the Million Hearts website. Million Hearts also has a link to UW-CTRI’s healthcare provider training page and UW-CTRI videos in the Tools and Resource section of their website.
