The study offers coaching to all participants on how to quit smoking and/or live smoke-free.
Every participant who smokes will also get a proven effective medication. An individual might get:
1) Nicotine patch + nicotine lozenge.
2) Varenicline (Chantix).
3) Nicotine patch.
The first two medication treatments listed above have never been compared head-to-head, said Tim Baker, UW-CTRI Research Director. “We’ll not only determine which works better, but also whether one approach works better with some types of smokers than does the other.”
