Mints as nicotine delivery systems?
A new product available online that could affect public health is Mint Mates, a product from 7 Daze. They’re mints that look like breath fresheners or candy but also include nicotine.
The products come in containers with 40 mints and are available in flavors such as grape, mango, menthol, spearmint and strawberry, and in either 2 mg or 4 mg of nicotine.

The company claims the mints last for up to 30 minutes.
“Nicotine is highly addictive and can increase heart rate and affect sleep and concentration,” said UW-CTRI Director Dr. Hasmeena Kathuria. “People who do not use nicotine should not start. We have strong evidence that FDA-approved nicotine replacement therapies, including nicotine gum and lozenges, can help people quit smoking. However, products like Mint Mates have not been authorized by the FDA as smoking cessation aids, so consumers should not assume they provide the same benefits.
One reviewer claimed he used them in places he couldn’t vape. But that reviewer indicated he planned to continue using both products.
“What we definitely know is that all adults should work together to keep these products out of the hands of infants and children so they don’t become sick, poisoned, or addicted to nicotine,” Kathuria said.
