The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has named UW-CTRI Researcher and Pediatrician Dr. Brian Williams to the AAP Section on Nicotine and Tobacco Prevention and Treatment.
Williams has agreed to an invitation to fill a two-year vacancy and is eligible to run for another three years if he chooses.
“This is a tremendous honor,” Williams said, “and an opportunity to raise awareness about how pediatricians can play an integral role in limiting children’s exposure to tobacco and nicotine.”
The AAP Section on Nicotine and Tobacco Prevention and Treatment has authored several clinical reports, policy statements and technical reports on nicotine and tobacco products, dangers, youth use and pediatric treatment.
The Section on Nicotine and Tobacco Prevention and Treatment is housed within the AAP Julius B. Richmond Center of Excellence, which supports AAP research, education and policy related to tobacco use and secondhand smoke exposure. The Richmond Center website offers various tools, including the Youth Tobacco Cessation App employing the Ask-Counsel-Treat model.
Williams will meet with the Section virtually once a month and in person at the AAP annual conference, this year in Denver.
