UW-CTRI Research Specialist Julia Matthews on April 1 defeated incumbent Alder Amani Latimer to represent District 12 on Madison’s City Council. That district includes north side neighborhoods near the Dane County Regional Airport.
Matthews told the Capitol Times that her work at UW-CTRI prepared her well to handle the complex issues she will tackle as an alder.
“As a programmer analyst, I work across multiple teams and am required to take their differing needs and viewpoints, and come up with solutions that work for everyone,” she said. “This includes subject matter experts (scientists and researchers), implementers (myself and the database team), executors (clinic staff) and the general public (study participants).”
At UW-CTRI, Matthews is an expert at designing REDCap study databases, and plans to use those skills to survey her constituents on issues important to them.
“My academic background in science has prepared me to find the resources to answer tough questions and work to understand new processes and language when learning about something new.”
“Congratulations to Julia,” said UW-CTRI Director Dr. Hasmeena Kathuria. “We’re so proud to work with you and have you on our team!”
