Adsit Named to Wisconsin Cancer Council Leadership Team

Rob Adsit HeadshotThe Wisconsin Cancer Council has named UW-CTRI Outreach Director Rob Adsit to its leadership team for a one-year term in 2016. Adsit joins a diverse group of 16 members chaired by Dr. Patrick Conway, Radiation Oncologist with Gundersen Health System.

The Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Control Program and its partnership arm, the Wisconsin Cancer Council, work to engage public, private and community partners to develop, implement and promote a statewide approach to cancer control.

The Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Control Program is funded through federal, state and University of Wisconsin funds. The staff and infrastructure for these projects are housed at the UW Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC).

Since 2003, the UW-CTRI Outreach Program has partnered with the UWCCC to enhance cancer prevention and tobacco-cessation efforts across Wisconsin. As part of that effort, UW-CTRI Outreach staff surveyed 10 of the Regional Cancer Center Network affiliates in Wisconsin to document current activities regarding their identification and treatment of their patients who use tobacco. They identified champions, or providers who believe strongly in the importance of helping patients quit smoking. At willing sites, UW-CTRI Outreach staff provided tailored academic detailing strategies and materials to help oncology staff to help their patients quit smoking.

“I’m excited to continue to build our partnerships with cancer-control organizations throughout Wisconsin,” Adsit said.
