Quit Line Helps Mother and Daughter Stop Smoking

After smoking for 50 years, Claudia Anderson decided it was time for a change. Her daughter, Nicole Nelson, had quit smoking, so she decided to try to follow suit. Anderson had quit cold turkey once before for two years, but it didn’t stick. This time she thinks it will.

Like Nelson, Anderson called the Wisconsin Tobacco Quit Line and got varenicline from her doctor to help ease cravings. It helped to be able to smoke during the first week of taking varenicline, and also to speak with the Quit Line three or four times. She would recommend calling the Quit Line to a friend or relative who wanted to quit smoking.

“They’re very helpful, they listen to you,” Anderson said. The Quit Line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by calling 1-800-QUIT-NOW or 800-784-8669.
