Marcella Allison is the new Tobacco Care Manager (TCM) working on the BREATHE 2 study for UW Health with fellow TCM Matt Smith.
Allison previously served as a Community Health Worker in Dane County for the Health Council. Through a program called ConnectRx Wisconsin, Allison assisted Black patients, particularly expectant moms, through the first year of their babies’ lives. Allison would assist in an array of ways, from providing diapers and financial assistance, to helping find employment resources, to occasionally helping the mom or relatives access substance-use recovery resources.
Allison has 15 years of experience working in public health, including a certification as a community health worker. She has enjoyed connecting with patients and sharing resources to help them, so she said her new TCM job is an ideal fit.
