Product Watch: Vapes like Apple watches?
A new product that concerns public health leaders is a device that resembles a pocket watch with a touchscreen akin to an Apple watch. It also contains nicotine.
It’s a vaping device called Vaporesso Nano 5.

The company shows young adults using the product and markets the design options (such as “Yellow Satin,” “Color Rush,” or “Damascus Pink”) as well as “personalized” fashionable straps that attach to the devices. The touch screen is approximately 2 inches wide and the device weighs 86 grams.
The product costs $35.90 and uses nicotine cartridges that come in 3 ml or 2 ml.
“We’ve seen this pattern before,” said UW-CTRI Director Dr. Hasmeena Kathuria. “The tobacco industry continues to reinvent nicotine products in ways that make them seem new, sleek and appealing. The technology may change, but the underlying concern remains the same: Creating and sustaining nicotine addiction, particularly among young people.”
In addition, sustained “dual use” of smoking and vaping quadrupled risk for lung cancer beyond just smoking. This was according to research results presented at the American Association for Cancer Research Annual Meeting from The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center.
And yet, this product is sold online without FDA authorization.
“It’s another product that is addictive and should not be getting into the hands of adolescents,” Kathuria said.
