Teens and adults who vape can now switch between flavors without having to change a cartridge.
The new products, generally called switch vapes, allow customers to toggle between two flavors in the same device. These flavors are sold in self-contained, pre-packaged pods. Other devices use refillable pods. Users can empty one flavor and switch to another; or they can mix flavors.
For example, the popular Mr Fog Switch can toggle between flavors such as Coffee and Blue Razz Blow Pop. The vape allows for 45,000 puffs of nicotine.
The federal government had banned flavored refillable vapes, but companies have since found loopholes and tepid enforcement.
“The ability to mix so many flavors is alarming,” said UW‑CTRI Director Dr. Hasmeena Kathuria, a pulmonologist and critical care physician. “We know flavors make it easier for kids and teens to become addicted, increase the risk of nicotine poisoning for infants, and can make it harder for some adults to successfully quit vaping.”
