If you smoke and vape, there’s a new national study offering free tools to help you concur your New Year’s resolution to quit smoking.
The Avenues Study has gone national and virtual and people can sign up at AvenuesStudy.com.
Those who complete it get paid up to $445.
“Research shows extended dual use of cigarettes and vapes can quadruple the risk for lung cancer beyond just smoking,” said Dr. Megan Piper, director of research at the University of Wisconsin Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention. “If you smoke and vape and want free help from the comforts of home, we’d love to help.”
Participants must both vape and smoke and be 21 or older—but can live anywhere in the United States.
They’ll be a part of ground-breaking nation-wide research with 500 people in the study. They’ll explore different avenues to address their dual use, such as:
- Medications—participants will get either varenicline or nicotine patch.
- Counseling approach—participants will either be encouraged to just quit smoking (and keep vaping) or to quit both smoking and vaping.
- Counseling intensity—participants will get either one coaching session or four sessions.
And now, for the first New Year’s, it’s available nationwide and entirely online.
